The 2021 Highland Gymnastics Team will forever be known as the first Highland team to advance to the District Competition in the sport. The top four teams on each day of Sectional Competition move on to Districts, as well as the top 12 event and all-around placers. Highland came in fourth with a team score of 138.725. Each school can have up to six competitors on each event and drop the lowest two scores. Highland’s team of five gymnasts all compete each event with only the lowest score being dropped. “Overall, I am really proud of how we have all come together as a team to qualify to Districts. We had positive attitudes and lifted each other up to do our best. We are a young team, and we all contributed to help reach this next exciting level,” said Jenna Pennington (sophomore). Pennington qualified to Districts last year on bars, so qualifying to Districts in the all-around (10th) and on bars (9th) this year as a sophomore is a great feat. In addition, Paige Yu (sophomore) was the Sectional All-Around Champion with a score of 37.7. She qualified to districts in each event: vault (2nd), bars (1st), beam (10th), and floor (2nd). The Highland Gymnastics Team will compete at the District Meet on February 27th at Mentor High School.
